Fact or Fiction?
1. There are many 100% environmentally friendly cleaning products to choose from at most retail and grocery stores.
Fiction:
Due to misleading terms, labeling, and imagery, it's hard to tell what products are actually safe to use and Earth-friendly.
2. If a product says "natural" or "green," then it's safer for your family and the Earth.
Unfortunately, there is no reliable third-party ranking system that can verify or categorize such claims for cleaning products at this time.
3. Greenwashing is the practice of making vague or false claims in order to trick consumers into thinking that a product is eco-conscious and/or non-toxic.
Fact:
The practice is so popular - that is actually has a name!
4. The best way to choose environmentally friendly cleaning products is to look for labels with pictures of flowers and plants on them.
The best way to tell if a product is eco-friendly is to check the ingredient list yourself. If the company isn't openly sharing its list, then Earth-friendly consumers should find a company to buy from that offers full disclosure.
5. Most natural cleaning products companies are Earth-friendly throughout their entire operation.
The fact is, there is a gray area between name brands and the companies that own them. Many so-called natural or Earth-friendly companies have been bought out in recent years by huge conglomerates. While the subsidiary of the main company may be ecologically responsible, the larger entity may not be.
